Substance Abuse Treatment Centers

Residential treatment is available for adults requiring an intense alcohol and drug treatment experience in order for them to begin and maintain sobriety. Residential treatment generally includes substance abuse assessment, around the clock observation, individual and group substance abuse counseling, 12-step groups, mental health assessment and treatment, life-skills training, vocational assessment and training, and recreational activities. Those run by an Indian health program or tribe generally also include a cultural and traditional healing component. Treatment frequently last from two to six months, with some programs having an on-site transitional living component which can last an additional six months.

There are five IHS-funded residential programs in California.
