Summer has finally arrived and many of you will increase the amount of outdoor activities, summer recreation, and driving time on the roads. If you will be using a motor vehicle as transportation, be sure to wear your seatbelt and secure children in proper child safety seats.

Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak and can break very easily. People with advanced cases of osteoporosis can break a bone by doing something as simple as sneezing. The disease occurs in women more often than men, and it is estimated that 50% of women over the age of 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis and up to 25% of men over 50 will.

March is National Nutrition Month and the theme is "Get Your Plate in Shape." Nutrition is the act or process of nourishing or being nourished. Food and drink regularly provided or consumed is the definition of diet. Poor nutrition and diet negatively impact or cause many of the chronic conditions faced by Native people.

February is designated as National Children's Dental Health Month. The most pressing dental health issue facing our children is dental decay.

January is the number one month to reflect on the past year and to make resolutions to change. However, New Year's resolutions are often made and dropped because of unrealistic or unattainable goals.

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) is a national observance established to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination now, through the holiday season, and into January and beyond. 

November 6-12, 2011 is Health Information and Technology Week. This year's theme is "Accurate Health Information for Care YOU Trust".
