Activity: Civil / Landscaping

Keyword: Parking Lot Lights

CSO No.:16521

Background:
A large parking lot was designed at the Blackfeet Hospital. There was a large section which did not have any islands for walkways but required lighting. The light poles were located at the front of proposed parking stalls without any protection of the light poles from potential damage by vehicles.

Lessons Learned:
Light poles should have pipe bollards to protect the poles or placesd such that damage from vehicles is eliminated.

Recommended Action:
During design, ensure light poles are not located in active parking areas or are protected from damage.
