Activity: Civil / Landscaping

Keyword: Retaining Walls

CSO No.:022700

Background:
The grading and site development at the ANMC resulted in several retaining walls ranging from 1.5 to 4.0 meters in height. These walls are adjacent to public walks and are frequented by family members including children.

Lessons Learned:
There is a potential for children to play on these walls and potentially fall 4.0 meters.

Recommended Action:
Avoid areas where the children can have easy access and be subject to a potential danger. Install non-climbable fencing on these walls where they cannot be avoided during design.

Location:
ANMC – Anchorage, AK
