Activity: Civil / Landscaping Keyword: Roof drainage system CSO No.:(DES Data entry from PDF File - Original author unknown.) Background: The roof drain system was piped internally to the Health Center at Lame Deer. As the pipe exited the building it was placed above ground some 30’ from the building foundation and traverses across landscaped area. The runoff requires a ditch with energy retarding obstacles. This has bisected the landscaped area making maintenance of the area difficult because a mower cannot cross but requires it to leave one side and go around to get to the other side of the ditch. Lessons Learned: The designer needs to consider the volume of flow exiting the roof and design the exit piping and discharge to minimize the affect. Recommended Action: The designer should pipe the roof drains to a point in the civil site where roof runoff can be treated as normal site runoff. The discharge should be completed at a structure where no interference is encountered for maintaining landscaped areas. Location: Northern Cheyenne Health Center Program: BAO/AFM Date: 02/08/2001
