Activity: Mechanical

Keyword: Equiment Access and Removal

CSO No.:1500

Background:
The mechanical room was included in the main hospital building and there is only one exterior wall with access to the major mechanical equipment.

Lessons Learned:
The equipment had to be installed in sequence since there was limited mechanical space and a removable wall panel had to be provided for access. Large equipment in the center of the mechanical room is very difficult to remove with out disturbing other equipment near the exterior wall.

Recommended Action:
During design, the access and removal of major mechanical equipment should be analyzed and a cartage plan prepared. Also, the advantages of a separate mechanical building may be reinforced.
