Activity: Other / Misc

Keyword: Security System, remote cameras

Background:
There was no security system in the original design and there was substantial unauthorized people wandering throughout the hospital, especially from the Emergency Room on the weekends.

Lessons Learned:
Security is essential in a modern hospital and the emergency room must have the proper physical controls to limit unauthorized access during off duty hours.

Recommended Action:
All hospitals and health centers need a comprehensive security plan, with extensive security cameras inside and outside monitored from a 24-hr duty station preferrably in the Emergency Department.

Pine Ridge Hospital, Pine Ridge, SD
