Activity: Other / Misc

Keyword: Construction Schedule

CSO No.:(author unknown)

Background:
Background: The plans and specs were written to require a computer generated construction schedule. The specs called for a schedule on a CPM type chart. The contractor wanted to provide only a minimum CPM schedule which consisted of 10-15 activity items.

Lessons Learned:
The number of “Activities” needs to be specified in the construction documents.

Recommended Action:
Research with a scheduling firm has indicated that to have crew size activities, there needs to be number indicated in the specifications. The designer should evaluate the construction and determine the number of activities that would compose the CPM Ganatt Chart. For a large project a crew or activity amount of 200-300 would not be considered abnormal.
