Summary:

This course is offered to those who have or will have involvement in prevention activities at the service unit, tribal, or area level. It focuses on clinical and community strategies to prevent oral disease. Principles of public health and health education applicable to program planning, implementation, and evaluation are discussed. The basic strategies of clinical and community preventive dentistry are reviewed. Concepts of effective communication and teambuilding are discussed.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Apply sound public health principles to plan, implement, and evaluate clinical and community-based prevention programs.
2. Use available information, guidelines, and strategies in order to prevent oral disease and promote health
3. Employ interpersonal skills to disseminate information about prevention and build a network of health professionals focused upon prevention activities and projects
4. Identify evidence-based preventive interventions known to be effective, and understand how best to utilize these materials and techniques

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
