Summary:

Concepts III is for seasoned, mature IHS and Tribal Dental Chiefs, Area Dental Officers and Headquarters Staff. This comprehensive course for dentists will expand on the principles and skills presented in Concepts I and II and take participants through the transition into leadership roles they may assume. Advanced management topics will be addressed such as conflict intervention, time management and program goal setting. Leadership areas such as influence, tipping points and support for and mentoring new managers through their development.

The curriculum is flexible enough to address the individual needs of participants. Participants will be asked to fill out self-awareness exercises that will add to the understanding of their personal leadership needs. Leaders that resonate energy, enthusiasm and optimism help their organizations thrive.

NOTE: A forum for post-course follow-up will be developed to support managers with the implementation of skills and actions developed in the course.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

1. Understand and apply the advanced concepts of Social Intelligence in order to resolve interpersonal conflicts and assist, develop and mentor future managers.
2. Identify their leadership style and apply the appropriate principles necessary to set personal and program goals.
3. Understand how leaders use influence and “tipping points” to garner support and resources for improving their programs.

Prerequisites:

This course is for Dentists only. Completion of Concepts of Service Unit Management II or Concepts for Area Dental Officers and Headquarters Staff is required except as approved by instructors.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
