Summary:

This session is part of a regular series of CE courses offered only to the staff of the Nashville and Albuquerque Areas. This session will cover malpractice prevention. Based on data from 24 years of HHS malpractice claims, the trends or key issues that tend to generate malpractice claims will be identified. Key concepts such as “standards of care” will be reviewed. Suggestions as to how to avoid malpractice claims, and if one is filed, how to successfully defend oneself, will be outlined. Finally, a limited number of case studies for discussion will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
1. List five issues or situations associated with the initiation of malpractice claims.
2 .State how the standard of care is determined.
3. Name three specific strategies to avoid or minimize the chances of successful malpractice claims.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
