Summary:

Two day gathering of chiefs in the Albuquerque Area. No pre-registration is required.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to:

CAMBRA Session:

1. Define CAMBRA and understand one clinic’s approach to utilizing the principles in a Public Health setting.
2. Site examples of pertinent literature and patient education materials that support this model.
3. Appropriately prescribe diagnostic tests and oral chemotherapeutics in the prevention of dental caries.

ECC Session:

1. Define early childhood caries and discuss the prevalence of this disease in the Indian Health Service and your Area.
2. Identify best practices nationally and in each respective Area that improve access to care, sealants, fluoride varnish applications by medical and dental teams, and ITRs.
3. Identify key medical and community partners and how dental can collaborate with these partners on the ECC Initiative.

Diabetes Session:

1. Explain the latest research on the “2-Way-Relationship” between periodontal diseases and diabetes mellitus.
2. Describe dental treatment modifications for people with diabetes.
3. List the components of the “diabetic protocol.”
4. Recognize and treat hypoglycemia at chairside.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
