Summary:

This session is part of the Challenges course offerered as course DD0050. This section will discuss public health dentistry history and principles. Practical ways to address the community as a patient will be explored. Application of therapeutic techniques within the context of prevention and efficiency of delivery will be demonstrated. The history and structure of the Alaska Dental Health Aide Program will be presented. Finally, there will be instruction on best practices for supervision and integration of dental health aides working as members of a team of providers lead by dentists. The session will conclude with a tour of the Anchorage DHAT Educational Program clinic.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss public health dentistry history and principles.
2. List practical ways to address the community as a patient.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
