Summary:

This course provides an overview of prevention strategies to improve oral health both in the dental clinic and in American Indian/Alaska Native communities. The course discusses the importance of prevention and describes best practices to prevent dental caries and periodontal diseases in all age groups.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this online course, participants will be able to:

  1. List three ways to provide topical fluoride.
  2. Discuss the effectiveness of sealants in AI/AN communities.
  3. Describe an effective protocol for fluoride varnish for children 9-24 months of age.
  4. List two negative effects of drinking soda pop.
  5. List the steps for providing a toothbrush prophylaxis.
  6. Discuss the effects of tobacco use and diabetes on periodontal disease.
  7. List three ways that you can get involved in oral health in your community.
  8. Describe two ways to improve the effectiveness of oral health education.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
