DE0395: Aseptic Technique in Oral Surgery
This course is available to staff at Winslow Dental Clinic only.
The purpose of this 3 hour course is to provide IHS dental providers, dental assistants, dental hygienists, and office staff with up to date information on aseptic techniques used in the office based oral surgery practice, the possible pathogenic microorganisms infecting patients, and the proper use of “Standard Precautions” as they relate to the profession. The course will include lecture, discussion, question/answer, and hands-on formats.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Name the transmissible microorganisms that commonly cause cross-contaminated infections in patients, describe their potential for transmission, and to employ that information to design treatment that reduces patient and staff risk during surgical care.
2. Identify those errors in judgment that lead to contamination in the oral surgery office practice, analyze the risk, and integrate that knowledge into everyday practice.
3. Demonstrate how to properly employ aseptic technique in the office environment when setting up instruments for surgery, and understand the importance in using these techniques when treating patients.
