Summary:

30 minutes of the call will be on the topic of Persistent pathogens on patient dental impressions and gypsum casts [Dr. Mork] and 30 minutes will be on the fundamentals of irrigation [Dr. Brunson].

Dr. Mork's presentation: The purpose of this course is to review the importance of proper disinfection of dental impressions. We will review a research article that demonstrates the existence of infectious microorganisms on patient -derived impressions and gypsum casts. We will review infection control policies and procedures to adequately disinfect impressions and dental appliances, to reduce the risk of cross-contamination of opportunistic pathogens.

Dr. Brunson's presentation:
The purpose of this course/discussion is to review the fundamentals of endodontic irrigation and how it relates to etiology of endodontic disease.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, the pariticipant will be able to:
Dr. Mork:
1. Identify infectious microorganisms that may exist on patient-derived dental impressions and gypsum casts.
2. Describe importance of adequately disinfecting all patient-derived impressions and appliances, e.g., complete dentures, before processing for lab work.
3. Apply effective infection control practices to properly disinfect dental impressions and other patient-derived appliances, e.g., complete dentures.

Dr. Brunson:
1. Cite references from endodontic literature
2. Distinguish between positive and negative pressure irrigation.
3. Employ reational irrigation techniques in clinical situations.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
