Summary:

Kathy Phipps will give a session on Using Data, Community-Based Interventions, and Clinic Services to Improve the Oral Health of AI/AN Populations. The session will provide updated information on the oral health of American Indian and Alaska Native children with special emphasis on the oral health of adolescents aged 12-15 years. We will discuss the special needs of this population group and how we can increase clinic use and access to preventive care for those at highest risk of disease. In addition, the course will provide information on the most recent innovations in dental disease prevention and updated information on risk-factors for dental caries, periodontal disease and oral cancer.

Dr. Nathan Schwamburg will give two sessions in which he will give updates on Restorative Dentistry and Associated Oral Soft Tissue Management. The first session will provide updated information of techniques and materials utilized for large posterior and anterior restorations. The second session will provide clinical guidance in the management of oral tissues surrounding subgingival restorations and guidance in caries risk/management.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of Kathy Phipps session, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe the oral health of adolescents in the Billings Area.
2. Discuss methods for increasing dental clinic use among adolescents.
3. List evidence-based interventions to prevent dental disease in the permanent dentition.
4. Describe risk factors for dental caries and periodontal disease in AI/AN populations.
5. Discuss innovative methods for managing dental caries in preschool children.
At the end of Nathan Schwamburg's sessions, the participant will be able to:
1: List techniques and materials used for large posterior restorations.
2: Discuss techniques for management of gingival soft tissue for direct/indirect restorations.
3: Indicate techniques in caries management.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
