  The Public Health Nursing department at Sioux San Hospital promotes the American Indian population living in Pennington County to achieve the higest levels of holistic health possible. At-home preventative, curative and rehabilitative services are provided by staff.

Goals and Objectives

  • Promote communicable disease prevention and control through a comprehensive Immunization surveillance program.
  • Provide comprehensive PHN services to parent/child health community based programs that promote healthy pregnancy outcomes, breastfeeding, obesity prevention, FAS prevention, and the reduction of infant mortality.
  • Enhance team approach to comprehensive family health care services through collaborative efforts with the Community Health Representative program, Health Educator, and Social Services. Most of this effort focuses on geriatric health care.
  • Increase preventive services and education in the community related to the chronic diseases of diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and heart disease.
  • Address adolescent health needs through preventive screenings and educational opportunities in the school and community settings.
