Burns Pauite Tribe
Our Northern Paiute ancestors (the Wada-Tika) were small peaceful bands who roamed extensively in central eastern Oregon. They were hunter-gatherers. Our ancient leaders governed without a formalized governmental structure or permanent chiefs. Recognized in 1973, our reservation now covers 930 acres of trust land, and 320 acres of fee-patent land. Another 11,000 plus acres of allotted lands is held in trust for individual Indians. In 1988, a newly revised Constitution and By-Laws were adopted by our people, and approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
