Nez Perce Tribe

The affairs of the Nez Perce Tribe are administered by the Nez Perce Tribe Executive Committee (NPTEC). The NPTEC consists of nine members elected by the Tribal General Council. The Tribal headquarters are located at Lapwai, Idaho.The NPTEC has powers to: represent the Tribe in negotiations, to promote and protect the health, education and general welfare of the Tribal members, to administer unrestricted Tribal funds, and to prescribe rules governing nominations and elections of NPTEC.

The Northern Idaho Indian Health Center is a 527 square meter outpatient clinic in Lapwai, Idaho. The clinic is 32 years old and was operated by the DHHS until recently, when the Tribe took over its management under a 638 contract. The tribe now hires health professionals directly, formerly through the Indian Health Service. The user population for this facility in 1998 was 3,623.
