BACKGROUND:

Effective January 1, 1974, the inpatient per diem (subsistence) rate charged to dependents of members of the uniformed services in Federal medical care facilities (including PHS Indian Hospitals) was increased from $1.75 to $3.50.  This action was taken by the Secretary of Defense in consultation with the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare, pursuant to Title 10 U.S.C. 1078(a).  Billings should reflect the new rate for hospitalization of dependents of members of the uniformed services.  Please make the necessary pen and ink changes noted below to Part 2, Chapter 4, TN 72.11 dated 11/15/72.
