BACKGROUND

Effective january 1, 1977, the per diem rate charged to dependents for inpatient care in uniformed services medical facilities (including PHS Indian Hospitals) is increased from $3.90 to $4.10.  This action was taken by the Secretary of Defense in consultation with the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare, pursuant to title 10 U.S.C. 1078(a).  Financial Management Officers must take immediate steps to ensure that the $4.10 rate is charged to all dependents beginning January 1.  (This rate also applies as the active duty dependents' cost share for inpatient care received under CHAMPUS, i.e., $4.10 per day or $25, whichever is greater).

Please make the necessary pen and ink changes to Part 2, Chapter 4, TN. 72.11 dated 11/15/72.  This issuance is being revised.
