BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this Transmittal Notice (TN) is to transmit a copy of the new Part 6, Chapter 4, "New or Restored Federally Recognized Tribes," Indian Health Manual (IHM).  The new chapter revises the policy and procedures for integrating new or restored Federally Recognized Tribes into the Indian Health Service (IHS) system.

MATERIAL SUPERSEDED:

Special General Memorandum No. 97-1, "New Federally Recognized/Restored Tribes Policy," dated December 4, 1997


MANUAL MAINTENANCE:

Insert the attached copy of the new Part 6 Chapter 4 “New or Restored Federally Recognized Tribes,” IHM, including the chapter Table of Contents, in its place after Part 6,Chapter 3, IHM.

Log and file this TN in sequential order
