Transmittal Notice 13-07

TN 13-07
07/15/13

BACKGROUND

The purpose of this Transmittal Notice (TN) is to transmit a copy of the Part 3, Chapter 11 "Environmental Health," Indian Health Manual (IHM).  This revised and updated chapter replaces an IHM chapter that has been in effect for almost 30 years.  It incorporates nationally recognized best practices into the Indian Health Service (IHS) Environmental Health Program to protect the health and prevent diseases in the eligible American Indian and Alaska Native population that we serve.  The use of this updated chapter will help to reduce environmentally related morbidity and mortality in Tribal communities.  The Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEHE), IHS operates the national environmental health program that has three core functions; it assesses Tribal environmental health situations, develops policy to alleviate problems, and provides assurance that the "Ten Essential Public Health Services" are being provided.
