HOW:
"We work closely with the Billings Area recruiting specialist. A welcome letter is sent to any provider candidate highlighting the service unit and the community. I personally call and email the provider and, if the provider shows a sincere interest, a site visit is scheduled. A full day is dedicated to meeting the staff and touring the facility. There's also a luncheon and a tour of the community. We then make a follow-up phone call and send an email as well as a card to thank the provider for their interest. This sequence was particularly successful in recruiting a physician over the last few months."      --CDR George Ceremuga, DO

People Smart Logo

"The culture of successful facilities creates a sense of belonging for employees and makes them want to stay."

- Dr. Charles Grim

IHS embraces the philosophy: Success has a name. With each name comes a story, and IHS recognizes that there is value in disseminating stories of successful health professional staff retention efforts within the Indian health programs. Such sharing among leadership of best practices, tips and techniques is a crucial aspect of PeopleSmart, creating and maintaining a winning across-the-board retention effort.

The retention best practices and case studies presented here come from the Indian health community and are updated regularly. Please visit this site often to learn from others what is working, and most importantly, to send your own success stories to help the retention effort grow.
