This course gives an overview of how to design, conduct, and evaluate an oral health prevention program. The concepts in this course may be applied to either clinic based or community based programs. In this course you will learn the Problem, Objectives, Activities, Resources, Evaluation [POARE] model that the Indian Health Service [IHS] recommends for designing prevention programs. Using this model, dental team members will be able to plan effective prevention programs and monitor those programs to make sure they work. Any member of the dental team will benefit from this course.
This course will be done over a four week period and is completely online. Each participant will use local information to plan a prevention program that will work in his/her clinic or community.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe each element of the POARE model. 2. Write Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time Bound [SMART] objectives. 3. Identify at least one evidence based prevention activity for an oral health issue. 4. Explain the difference between qualitative and quantitative evaluation.
