IHS Nursing Opportunities

Nursing Training

The IHS encourages and supports nursing staff development and opportunities for professional growth. Our IHS/Tribal/Urban nurses are highly qualified individuals who have chosen to serve Indian communities in rural, remote, isolated and urban areas across the country. We are proud of our nurses and we appreciate their contributions to promoting and raising the health status of Native Americans and Alaska Natives (NA/AN's). The IHS is especially interested in developing entry level nursing staff, identifying and training future nurse leaders and providing opportunities for nursing staff to pursue advanced nursing degrees. IHS provides these nursing opportunities through the following education programs.

LONG TERM TRAINING

Please read the Long Term Training Bulletin (Section 118). The Nurse Residency Program Participant Handbook is also available for review.

NURSING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Please read about the Nursing Scholarship Program (Section 112).
