How do you decide who is an Indian?
If the tribe code is between the values of 000 and 997, we look in the ‘Tribe’ standard code book to get the Indian Flag related to the value. (If the value is outside the range, they are non-Indian. If the value is between 000 and 997 but not in the code book, they are non-Indian.)

If the value is 998 or 999, we look at the beneficiary classification code:

  • If it is ‘01’ then they are Indian
  • If it is not ‘01’ we look at the blood quantum
  • If it is a number between 1- 4 inclusive, they are Indian
  • If it is not, they are non-Indian
