As part of the Director's Initiatives, the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention program is charged with developing communication materials to raise awareness to specific health concerns. As a result, below are resources that have been compiled by the IHS HP/DP staff. Please feel free to reference these materials in your grants, presentations, or other communication materials that you might have.

    As part of the health promotion disease prevention work, the program participates in initiatives common to the other agency intiatives. These two fact sheets describe the Agency Initiatives and the HP/DP Program activities that support the Agency Initiatives common work (last updated 8/2009).
  • HP/DP Fact Sheets (Last revised 3/2009) PDF icon (119 KB)
    Four fact sheets are available including: one page on American Indian Alaskan Native (AI/AN) Mortality statistics; one page on AI/AN unhealthy behaviors; one page on AI/AN healthy behaviors; and a final page on cost estimate national and AI/AN specific.
  • HP/DP Fact Sheet PowerPoint Presentation Slides (Last revised 3/2009) PPT icon (696 KB)
    Thirteen slides focused on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention are provided to be incorporated in presentations given by tribal leaders. Descriptive notes are in the Presenter Notes field and were designed to allow reading aloud as presenting the slides, a basis for revision to a targeted audience, or text revised and translated in local laguages and delivered to the community.
  • HP/DP Wellness Data
    Wellness statistics were complied by the IHS HP/DP staff and provided on the Director's initiatives pages. These statistics support the prevalence of healthy behaviors in American Indians and Alaskana Natives. Also available at the bottom of the page is a map with links to AI/AN specific statistics by region of the United States.
