Training Update

We hope that by now you have heard through your CHR Area Office Coordinator that the last half of the CHR Basic & Refresher Trainings for 2009 has been cancelled due to issues regarding the Inter-Agency Agreement (IAA) with the Veterans Administration (VA). We understand that you probably have many questions and concerns regarding future CHR Basic & Refresher Trainings. While cancellation of the classes is a temporary situation and delays training, please be assured that IHS HQ Staff has been working diligently over the past month to address the issues and to reinstate these trainings or identify other possible solutions. IHS is committed to ensure that training is provided and will supply updates by email and this website immediately when new information is available.

Many of you have received solicitations and announcements from other organizations regarding CHR Basic and Refresher training programs.  Please be aware that IHS only approves Basic and Refresher training sponsored and funded through the IHS HQ CHR program.  If IHS does not sponsor or fund the Basic or Refresher training, IHS is in a position to not approve the training a person receives.  Another factor tribal CHR Programs may also want to consider is coverage under the Federal Tort Claims Act should litigation arise due to some action or inaction of their own CHR trained by an organization without IHS training approval.
