Definitions of class types:

  • eLearning: Instructor-led demonstration via web and phone. This class type does not include hands-on instruction. Participants may join from their home site with phone and computer/internet access.
  • eLearning/Hands-on: Instructor-led demonstration and hands-on via web and phone. Some sessions provide access to an OIT training environment while others require access to a home training environment or test patient. Participants may join from their home site with phone and computer/internet access.
  • Classroom: In-person instructor-led lecture and hands-on in an OIT training environment. Participants must be in the classroom to participate.
  • Satellite Classroom: Area provided proctor supports an instructor teaching via web and phone. This class type includes hands-on in an OIT training environment. Participants must be in the classroom to participate.

     BCMA Configuration & Test

Prerequisite: This BCMA Training and Deployment Activity is strictly for [a] Eligible Hospital [EH] BCMA & eMAR Team Members that must report on the Meaningful Use Stage 2 eMAR Measure in 2014 and [b] Members of the VA-IHS BCMA Cross Functional Team [CFT]. The purpose of the VA-IHS BCMA CFT is to address the goals and objectives identified in the CFT Charter and establish an operational relationship. The CFT will assist and guide implementation and operational use of BCMA in IHS and Tribal Healthcare facilities.

Description: Bar Code Medication Administration [BCMA] assistive technology is a software application which is used by the Veterans Health Administration [VHA] facilities to document medication administration activities and reduce medication errors. Ensuring the software is usable is paramount to successful adoption by the end-users. The primary purpose of this BCMA activity is to both configure and test the [a] BCMA Hardware to include printers, scanners, & labels [b] BCMA RPMS Software, and [c] BCMA Client in preparation for implementing Bar Code Assisted Technology to facilitate the Medication Administration Process and an electronic Medication Administration Record [eMAR] within the Inpatient Setting.

     BCMA Drug File Optimization Six Week Series-eLearning/Hands-On

Prerequisite: Intended Audience: Inpatient Pharmacy Informaticists and BCMA Coordinators and those needing a refresher. Requires advanced knowledge of the RPMS Inpatient Suite of Pharmacy Applications and Fileman. Each participant must have access to a computer with internet connection and a separate telephone line to dial into the web conferencing number. Participants must also have access to both their facility’s RPMS roll & scroll system and EHR GUI.

     iCare: A Population Management Tool

Prerequisite: None Listed

Description: This is an intensive three day hands-on training on the iCare population management software. This course is designed to teach participants about the unique features and functionalities of iCare that include Care Management Event Tracking [CMET], Care Management of groups of patients tracking Meaningful Use data over time, and Automated IPC data collection. Participants will learn how to identify groups of patients who share user-defined characteristics and create panels [patient lists] based on user definitions. The participants will utilize iCare to create patient lists to meet the Stage 2 Meaningful Use objectives for Patient lists and Reminder notifications. Participants will customize their views of diverse patient data to identify patient care needs and areas for improvement in the delivery of health care services. Hands-on practice includes, but is not limited to: creating iCare panels based on a variety of clinical scenarios, tracking CMET events setting up user preferences, site parameters, taxonomies, and user access, customizing layout templates, documenting reminder notifications for Meaningful Use, entering and editing patient data, adding TIU notes identifying unmet performance measures reviewing IPC data for a panel of patients and a microsystem. The training consists of lecture, demonstration of the tool, and hands-on exercises utilizing individual computer terminals for each student and a simulated training database.

Description: This is Part 2 of a 2 part CMET training. In Part 2 CMET user-preferences, CMET site parameters , CMET user access management, and CMET taxonomy maintenance are discussed. The trainer uses different scenarios to demonstrate the tracking and managing of multiple CMET events for a panel of patients and at the site level. The trainer explains and demonstrates ways to customize the views of CMET data on the CMET sub-tabs. The trainer shows users how to batch process normal mammogram and pap smears for patients in a panel and at the site level.

Prerequisite: Participants must be proficient with RPMS Laboratory functions and have attended prior RPMS Introduction to Lab Package training, and Intermediate Lab Package Training courses. Participants must have basic knowledge of the RPMS laboratory workflow for test ordering, accessioning and resulting processes. In addition, all participants must be able to work in RPMS VA FileMan – Day One Lab Files, maintain test files in VA FileMan File 60, maintain the Reference Laboratory package, and be familiar with the Indian Health Service Electronic Health Record Laboratory Order process.
