Deputy Director for Management Operations

Robert G. McSwain, [PDF - 44KB] a member of the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, is the Deputy Director for Management Operations (DDMO), for the Indian Health Service (IHS). As DDMO, Mr. McSwain serves as the principal advisor to the IHS Director for the management of IHS operations.
Chief Medical Officer

Susan V. Karol, M.D., [PDF - 56KB] a member of the Tuscarora Indian Nation, is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Indian Health Service (IHS). As the IHS CMO, Dr. Karol provides medical advice and guidance to the Office of the Director and staff on American Indian and Alaska Native health care policies and issues.
Deputy Director for Intergovernmental Affairs

RADM Sandra Pattea [PDF - 33KB] a member of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, and a descendent of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona, is the Deputy Director for Intergovernmental Affairs for the Indian Health Service (IHS). In this position, RADM Pattea advises the IHS Director and provides oversight on tribal and urban Indian health activities and communications as well as public, legislative, and Congressional relations within the Office of the Director.

Geoffrey Roth, [PDF - 33KB] a descendent of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North and South Dakota, is the Senior Advisor to the Director of the Indian Health Service (IHS). The IHS, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is the principal federal health care advocate and provider for American Indians and Alaska Natives. Mr. Roth has more than twelve years experience working with Tribes, tribal colleges and universities, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations.
