You can read important background about the Special Diabetes Program for Indians in the Annual Report to Congress, submitted by the IHS Division of Diabetes. See the most recent report at their website, www.diabetes.ihs.gov. Also consult our California Area Diabetes Consultant for more information.
How do I network with other California Area Indian health programs?
Ask your Area Diabetes Consultant about joining the CAN-DO (California Area Native American Diabetes Organization) webinars, provided several times a year. Also meet contacts at the annual “Diabetes Day” conference, held in Sacramento, CA, each year during Spring.
What is the California area diabetes prevalence rate?
It is 13 percent (age adjusted prevalence of diagnosed diabetes among American Indians/Alaska Natives aged 20 years or older, 2006).
What is the current SDPI Community-Directed grant year?
As of October 1, 2012, we are in Fiscal Year 2013 (FY2013). There are four funding cycles for which the start dates are: Oct 1, 2012; January 1, 2013; April 1, 2013; and June 1, 2013.
