Subject: Immunizing children for transitional or regular kindergarten

Immunize children as young as four years now for transitional or regular kindergarten in the fall!

Students are already registering for school this fall. Many four-year-old children in California with birthdays between September and December will be starting transitional kindergarten under a two-year program authorized under the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010

Under California’s kindergarten immunization requirements, even four-year old children need their pre-kindergarten immunizations prior to the first day of transitional kindergarten. The federal  ACIP, AAP, and AAFP recommend pre-kindergarten immunizations starting at four years of age.  Make sure your patients are immunized before starting transitional or regular kindergarten!

Note: If a parent or guardian is requesting a personal beliefs exemption to a required immunization, documentation must be signed no sooner than 6 months prior to the first day of kindergarten.  For more information, see www.shotsforschool.org.
