The statistician of the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service is responsible for carrying out
analysis used to promote the health and welfare of the Native American population in our
community. These analyses are used to determine the amount of funding each tribe may receive
from the federal government. For example, using RPMS (Resource and Patient Management System)
the statistician is responsible for calculating the workload at each service unit and facility.
This in turn, is used to identify the active user population at each service unit. The active
user population is used to trend population growth and estimate needs for new facility planning.
In addition to these types of services, the statistician helps all the departments within the
Phoenix Area Indian Health Service obtain answers to adhoc requests. This may include the
population breakdown of a service unit or community or the most prevalent morbidity rates in an
area. This information may be used for grant writing and/or special projects.
