Patient Education Handouts
The IHS maintains a website of locally developed and culturally relevant patient education handouts on a wide variety of diseases and topics that can be easily printed.
Each handout contains corresponding patient education codes that should be documented when reviewing these handouts with patients. For a searchable list of IHS standard patient education codes go to Patient Education Protocols and Codes.
If you would like to submit a handout, please follow the guidelines on the check list. Education handouts will be reviewed for content and readability and assigned appropriate patient education codes prior to posting on the website. You can expedite the review process by indicating that local subject matter experts have approved the document. If you have questions on finding and submitting patient education handouts please contact Mary Wachacha.
Recommended sources of patient education materials
