The Indian Health Service is responsible for providing health services to approximately 1.9 million American Indians and Alaska Natives in 45 hospitals and 288
clinics.
The LRP's ranking system gives high site scores to those sites that are most in need of specific health professions. If you apply for a site with a score of
70 or above, you will be considered for an award beginning in January (or as soon as funding becomes available). If the site you choose has a score of less than 70,
your application will not be considered until March. Awards are given to the applications that match the highest priorities until funds are no longer available.
How to Use the Priority List
LRP Priority Lists are sorted by site score or by city and state. When you have opened the Priority List for your health profession discipline, you will see column headers at
the top entitled Facility Name, City and State, Area, Loan Repayment Site Score and I/T/U (which stands for Indian Health Service/Tribal/Urban). I/T/U indicates
that the program is managed by the federal government through IHS, by a Tribal organization or by an Urban Indian organization.
Please keep in mind that sites have different scores depending on the health profession discipline most needed at that location. For instance, a site may have a score of 50
for dentists, but 100 for pharmacists.
