  • Understand the history of the Indian health care system, and its relationship to local communities
  • Discuss the concept of managed care, and its influence on the Indian health care system
  • Explore options to meet challenges of change

    Critical Thinking
At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Demonstrate how to be a critical thinker
  • Discuss the balance of rationality and intuition
  • Demonstrate how to take action on issues by leveraging your knowledge and expertise

At the end of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss techniques for successful group think process
  • How to manage small groups
  • Appreciation of all participants
  • How to bring out the best in group participants

    Presentation Skills
At the end of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Write with clarity, purpose, and cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrate effective presentation skills
  • Show how to give and receive feedback
  • Demonstrate how to be an effective listener
  • Make a presentation to senior level executives that is effective

At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Complete and discuss color matrix for each participants.
  • Provide participants with characteristics of participant
  • How does "our" color influence group process
  • How to appreciate each other's differences

  • Describe the differences between change and transition
  • Identify effective strategies to lead during times of change and transition
  • Develop a plan to lead an organization through a change process

    Leadership in the 21st Century
At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Define leadership
  • Demonstrate the nine leadership skills
  • How to influence, shape and advocate for change

Wednesday Afternoon      5:45 PM - 6:00 PM
   Discussion of Multi-Disciplinary Case Studies

Thursday Morning     8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Personnel
At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • List the steps to be taken to hire a new employee
  • List the steps to be taken to remove an employee
  • describe the concept of progressive disciplinary action
  • Discuss the following topics:  recruitment and retention, evaluation, grievance processes and classification
  • Know how to write a good position description
  • Understand the various policies and procedures for different personnel systems (civil service, Commissioned Corps, Wage-grade, private, tribal)
  • Appreciate the role of the union and its influence on personnel actions

Thursday Afternoon      1:30 PM - 2:45 PM

At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • List the qualities of a good evaluation process
  • Describe the process of peer review
  • Discuss techniques to best manage difficult employees
  • Describe what should and what cannot be delegated to others
  • Understand your rights as a manager
  • Improve your methods for investigating complaints

Thursday Afternoon      4:00 PM- 6:00 PM
   Personal Vision and Goal Setting
At the completion of this unit, participants will be able to:
  • Describe their role in the Indian health care system, the local health care facility, and the local community
  • Discuss their value as a member of the community
  • Identify their own core values, motive and beliefs relative to the organization and the community
  • Know strategies about how to make a difference, and how to go about doing it
  • Describe methods used to become inspirational to others
  • Write a personal vision statement
    
Thursday Evening      (Optional) Group Dinner 6:15 PM - 8:30 PM

Friday Morning      8:00 AM - 12:00 PM with 15 minute break
