Native Elder Health Care Resource Center

Program Type: Resources - Information or materials that might help develop a program/project in a community but can not be defined as a Best Practice, Promising Practice, or Local Effort.

Description:
Initially funded by the Administration on Aging for a four-year period beginning February 1, 1994, is a national resource center for older American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians, with special emphasis on culturally competent health care. Located in the School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, NEHCRC has at the center of its efforts four cross-cutting themes: ascertaining health status and conditions, improving practice standards, increasing access to care, and mobilizing community resources. Diverse organizational assets are integrated to create a thematically consistent, population-specific, and multi-component program led by experienced, prominent Native faculty. Telecommunications and print media are employed to increase awareness of and access to NEHCRC activities, faculty, information resources, and fellow participants.
