The Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), a 75-bed hospital, provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care services.
The medical center is designated a level II trauma center with a five bed intensive care unit. NNMC serves as a referral center
for reservation-based hospitals and clinics in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah.
Rotational Experience opportunities:
Inpatient experience including ICU round, pharmacy dosing protocols (vancomycin, gentamicin, warfarin), code response, and opportunities to assist with acute and chronic disease management and infectious disease treatment choices.
Outpatient experience including patient counseling, practicing in a medical home model setting, adjusting medications based on renal/hepatic function, opportunities to assist in acute and chronic disease management.
Ambulatory Care Clinic
Train in pharmacy managed clinics with prescriptive authority as part of core curriculum including warfarin clinic, asthma clinic, seizure clinic, and pain clinic. Residents are also provided opportunities to train in non-core curriculum clinics with prescriptive authority including chronic disease management and heart failure. Other training opportunities exist in HIV, Hepatitis C, and smoking cessation clinics.
Four to six week intensive care blocks of training in the following areas: infectious disease, AmCare, diabetes, and elective.
Year-long training experiences in AmCare, managed care, inpatient, and outpatient.
While never guaranteed, historically residents have been provided opportunities to travel to the New Mexico Pharmacist Clinician training program and/or the BCPS training.
Surrounded by a land of immense natural beauty marked by towering mesas and bordered by scenic mountains, the community of
Shiprock is situated on the banks of the San Juan river. Many world-class attractions are within 90 miles of Shiprock including
the mountain bike meccas of Moab, Utah and Durango, Colorado. Winter sports destinations include the Rocky Mountain ski areas
of Purgatory, Telluride, and Wolf Creek.
