Maternal Child Health
- oversees, monitors, evaluates and improves the quality and access of healthcare services to women and children in the Phoenix Area
- provides technical assistance in the area of maternal-child health to the service units and tribal facilities
- serves as a liaison to state and county health departments, tribal organizations such as ITCA (Inter-tribal Council of Arizona) or ITCN (Inter-tribal Council of Nevada) and professional medical and health organizations
The GPRA indicators related to women and children are used to prioritize MCH activities
Current areas of focus include:
- Childhood immunizations
- Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative
- Obesity prevention
Services include:
- Program reviews and site visits are arranged upon request
- Child abuse prevention committee (at area level)
- Contract for Genetics/Dysmorphology clinics
Preventing Early Childhood Caries is a national IHS initiative
Domestic violence is receiving increased attention
