     Advanced Laboratory Package

Description: This course is designed for experienced users of the Laboratory Package who are interested in adding additional functionality. It is an advanced level course for those individuals who have been assigned the responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Laboratory Package at their site. Participants will be provided a full overview of barcode label printing, development of load/work lists and auto-instrument files for unidirectional and bidirectional instrument interfaces. The use and maintenance of Data Innovations Instrument Manager will be demonstrated and discussed. Use of VA Fileman for editing, searching, and printing information from the Laboratory files, setting up the Microbiology module, menu management, and common troubleshooting will also be included.

Description: This two and a half day course is designed to provide Site Managers with the basic knowledge and skills to manage their facility’s RPMS system on a daily basis. The course will cover basic RPMS management functions, utilities, operations, security, and identifying, troubleshooting and resolving common Caché, hardware, and software problems. Students will learn the skills to create and modify menus, add new and edit existing users, monitor and tune scheduled RPMS tasks, identify and resolve programming system errors, and manage RPMS devices.

     BCMA Drug File Optimization - Six Week Series

Prerequisite: Inpatient Pharmacy Informaticists who are members of the VA-IHS BCMA Cross Functional Team to include [a] Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority [CIHA], [b] Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority [CNHSA], [c] Chickasaw Nation Health System [CNHS, [d] Phoenix Indian Medical Center [PIMC], and [e] Whiteriver Indian Hospital. Advanced knowledge of the RPMS Inpatient Suite of Pharmacy Applications and Fileman is required. Each participant must have access to a computer with internet connection and a separate telephone line to dial into the web conferencing number. Participants must also have access to both their facility’s RPMS roll & scroll system and EHR GUI. It is expected that each site's participants will function as an EHR Working Team and be located in one central location at their facility during this training and deployment activity.

Description: Bar Code Medication Administration [BCMA] assistive technology is a software application which is used by the Veterans Health Administration [VHA] facilities to document medication administration activities and reduce medication errors. Ensuring the software is usable is paramount to successful adoption by the end-users. Description: The RPMS Behavioral Health System v4.0 provides a graphical user interface to the Behavioral Health System application. The focus of this training is on direct provider entry of clinical data and other functionality in BHS v4.0 GUI. Some of the functionality featured in this training includes electronic signature, enhanced intake functionality, simplified data entry, and modified reports. The Reports and Manager Utilities modules of BHS v4.0 are not in the GUI format and an introduction to these functions will be conducted in the RPMS traditional “roll and scroll” format. Description: The BHS v4.0 Manager Utilities and Reports course is an advanced class for behavioral health Program Managers and/or Clinical Directors who are responsible for internal and external reports and exporting of behavioral health data. The class will be taught primarily in the roll and scroll version of the software therefore, proficiency in RPMS is strongly encouraged. Over the course of the two-day session, the training will focus on: Site Parameters in the Manager Utilities module: Exploring set up of the site parameters including discussion of access to records, coding queue, links to PCC, etc. Data Entry Module: Generating “canned” reports that are available on the data entry menus such as Treatment Plans Needing Reviewed, GAF scores for one Patient, No Show report for a patient, etc. Reports Module: Producing other management reports that are only available in the reports module exploring the functionality of the GEN and PGEN reports including exporting the information to a spreadsheet. Emphasis is placed on preparing the participants to generate reports that enable them to provide the outcome information for grants or to provide standardized reports to governing bodies, tribal leaders, etc.

Description: The CHSMIS module is a facility-based automated document and fiscal management system for the IHS Contract Health Services Program. The CHSMIS is a fully integrated component of the RPMS and utilized shared data files for patients and vendors. CHMS automates document preparation functions including document generation, printing and approval for payment. Description: "CAC Course Description" Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Mountain Time This classroom "hands-on" training will be taught using Web Conferencing Technology and Satellite Classrooms at the [a] Office of Information Technology in Albuquerque, New Mexico – Mountain Time& multiple other locations [see website]. The instructors will teach via Classroom and Live Adobe Connect® using the educational techniques of lecture, discussion, scripts, and “hands-on” computer experience with the RPMS EHR clinical application. Area CACs and Area IT Professionals will serve as instructors, facilitators, mentors, and monitors at each of the computer training rooms. Prerequisites This class will be oriented towards Clinical Application Coordinators, Pharmacy Informaticist, Laboratory Informaticist, HIM Professionals, Site Managers, “EHR” Implementation Team Leaders” and other “EHR Team Members” involved with the set-up and implementation of EHR at their facility. Facilities that have loaded Pharmacy 5/7 and EHR at their facility prior to this class will be able to work on their own systems during the training. Prerequisite: Participants must have access to a computer with internet connection and a telephone line to dial into the web conferencing number. Participants must also have access to both their facility’s RPMS roll & scroll system and EHR GUI. It is expected that each site's participants will function as an EHR Working Team and be located in one central location at their facility during this training and deployment activity. It is also recommneded that the health care facility reduce appointments and reassign workloads in order to allow time to adjust to work processs and provide minimum disruption of on-going operations.

Description: Indian Health, Tribal, and Urban [I/T/U] Healthcare Facilities often have limited technical knowledge and limited time for learning, planning, and shepherding an implementation process for Electronic Health Records.  Indian Healthcare I/T/U Facilities often need help implementing the RPMS Electronic Health Record [EHR] to align with their practice and enable them to qualify for Meaningful Use [MU] incentives. This is an intensive "Hands-On", "At-the-Elbow", site-specific EHR activity designed for "Super User" and "End User" health care professionals responsible for using the RPMS EHR to document a clinical patient encounter at their facility. Description: This is an intensive three day hands-on training on the iCare population management software. This course is designed to teach participants about the unique features and functionalities of iCare that include Care Management Event Tracking [CMET], HIV Management System, Meaningful Use, and Improved Patient Care. Participants will learn how to identify groups of patients who share user-defined characteristics [eg. Hands-on practice includes, but is not limited to: creating iCare panels based on a variety of clinical scenarios setting up user preferences, site parameters, and user access creating multiple layout templates entering and editing patient data in the patient record batch processing normal pap smears and mammogram screenings adding TIU notes utilizing iCare function buttons targeting care needs for populations and individual patients tracking the incidence of communicable diseases and suicidal behaviors identifying unmet performance measures at the provider and facility level creating IPC micro-systems viewing and uploading data to IPC Portal. The training consists of lecture, demonstration of the tool, and hands-on exercises utilizing individual computer terminals for each student and a simulated training database.

Description: Audience: Health care providers, facility and program administrators, medical records personnel, planners and epidemiologists, and information systems personnel. Length: 3 days. Hours: 8:30 - 4:30 daily. Objectives: Students will be able to formulate and execute ad hoc searches of the PCC database to produce lists of patients with various medical conditions and patients with important service needs such as immunizations, pap smears, health education, and specialty care. Students will learn to produce age distributions, custom letters, and mailing labels for patients selected in ad hoc searches. Students will learn to select and execute reports for facility and program management, quality assurance, workload statistics, and community epidemiology. In addition, students will learn to capture or store files of PCC data and export those files to Excel. Teaching Method: The course consists of two sections: QMan, the PCC Ad Hoc Query tool and PCC Management Reports with a focus on using VGEN for ad hoc reporting and exporting data to PC based programs such as Excel. Each section consists of lecture with overheads, demonstration of the tool, and hands-on exercises utilizing individual computer terminals for each student and a simulated patient database.

It meets Meaningful Use Requirements for Clinician Provided Order Entry [CPOE] and interoperability.
