IHS.gov Folder Structure Standard
All IHS.gov websites will be placed at the root folder of the respective server.
All page folders must:
- Be reflective of the content on the site
- Be concise
- NOT have 'IHS' in them
- Be geared towards the site audience
With the implementation of this standard, vanity URLs (name.ihs.gov) are not permitted.
Justification and Reasoning:
By having each site located at the root folder of IHS.gov it allows for site naming that is easy to remember, consistent and brandable. Vanity URLs are not permitted because the offer very little to the end user but cause many issues in terms of overall site management.
Intranet area office websites which are hosted externally to the OIT web servers are exempt from this rule though are encouraged to transfer their sites to the official IHS.gov intranet server.
