DH0002: Challenges for the Dental Hygienist in IHS
Challenges is offered to those hygienists who are new to the IHS Dental Program. The course will focus on an overview of the IHS system, personnel issues, cultural issues, career development and principles of public health and health education as they apply to both clinical and community based prevention and treatment programs.

Upon completion of Challenges, the participants will be able to:
1. Provide an overview of IHS history, mission and structure and its personnel systems.
2. Identify principles of public health dentistry for health promotion and disease prevention projects.
3. Identify evidence-based strategies for preventive interventions and clinical treatment.
4. Provide an understanding of tribal cultural issues.
5. Provide information about career development opportunities within IHS and tribal sites.

None. Open to all hygienists in the Indian Health Dental Program whether tribal, contract, civil service or commissioned corps, full-time or part-time.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
