Summary:

The purpose of the ethics session is to provide an overview of ethical principles as they apply to the practice of dentistry. The ADA and ADHA Code of Ethics will be reviewed to provide the standard of ethical practice. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and solve common ethical dilemmas encountered in the practice of dentistry. There will also be a session on facial infections and a session on pharmacology.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the ethics session, the participant will be able to:
1. Apply ethical principles to the practice of dentistry.
2. Utilize the Code of Ethics in the everyday practice of dentistry.
3. Solve an ethical dilemma using ethical principles and professional code of ethics.

Upon completion of the Facial Infections session, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the limits of PO antibiotics.
2. Recognize Urgent versus Emergent Airways.
3. List current selection of antibiotics, recognize anatomical planes involved with facial infections.
4. Review common pathogens with facial infections, review indicators for drains and irrigation as treatment, and review patient selection for specialty referral.

Upon completion of the pharmacology session, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the relevance of pharmacology to the practice of dentistry.
2. Explain the importance of the influence drugs taken for non-dental purposes may have on the safe delivery of dental treatment.
3. Report the clinical relevance of pharmacology.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
