Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality. There are many risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing CVD, diabetes among them. There are many diagnostic tests which help identify patients at risk and those with CVD requiring intervention. It is important for providers and other health care team members to accurately identify and assess CVD risk and to appropriately treat/refer [without over-testing/treating].

This seminar will discuss risk factors for CVD as well as discuss the different types of tools available for diagnosis. The focus will be on providing information to determine the appropriate cardiovascular testing prior to referring and/or treating a patient.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular equivalents.
2. Outline key elements of the initial patient evaluation which should be considered in clinical decision making.
3. Explain what tests should be ordered in evaluating CVD in patients with/without diabetes.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
