This is based upon the tip of the week e-mail sent out by DOH the week of July 14th, 2026. To gain CDE credit, participants must successfully pass a test [score 80] based upon the reading material.

The CDC States:
Disinfectants must be used exactly as directed, including proper dilution, preparation, and use conditions. Altering a product [such as adding liquid to wipes] is inconsistent with labeled instructions and may reduce effectiveness.

DHCP should follow manufacturer recommendations for use of products selected for cleaning and disinfection [e.g., amount, dilution, contact time, safe use, and disposal].
Improper preparation [including dilution changes] can impact disinfectant performance. Solutions should be prepared exactly as directed and not altered.

Disinfectant efficacy depends on correct concentration. Adding liquid [topping off] can dilute the active ingredient and compromise microbial kill.

Disinfectants should be prepared fresh and according to manufacturer recommendations; improper handling or storage can reduce effectiveness.

The EPA States:
EPA-registered disinfectants are only effective when used according to their label. The label is legally enforceable—modifying the product [like adding fluid] is considered misuse.

Upon reviewing the NIPCS Tip of the week, you will:
1. Understand the importance of not diluting disinfectant solution
2. Know what role EPA plays in our use of disinfectants
3. Understand key considerations when dealing with bloodborne pathogens

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
