Description: This presentation will discuss Storytelling and Diabetes, a culturally grounded, semi-structured group program developed for American Indian adults living with diabetes. Integrating narrative medicine, social cognitive theory, and expressive arts, the program uses zine-making and intergenerational pairing to support connection, meaning-making, and self-management. The presentation will share the program’s theoretical grounding, structure, practice innovations, and past participants’ evaluations. We will also discuss our iterative program development process, including creation of a facilitator guide, development of a scalable implementation model for Tribal settings, and an upcoming transition to a peer-led model supported by a more rigorous outcome evaluation design.
