Description: The presentation will focus on Legionnaires’ disease [LD] history, detecting and responding to illness and prevention and control of the disease. Over the past several years with the increase of large gaming facilities, hotels and resorts in Indian country there has been an increase in the number of various illnesses related to food, water, air and other environmental factors. One such disease that has been on the increase in some of our facilities in California Area is the presence of Legionnaires’ disease. During this presentation we will focus on two confirmed LD case clusters and what the Environmental Health Specialists role is in assisting with any investigation, prevention and control efforts to assist Tribal gaming operations.
Learning Outcomes: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation the participants should have a better understanding of the following: 1. Environmental conditions favorable for the growth [colonization] of Legionella spp. 2. Role of the EHO during a Legionnaires’ disease investigation. 3. Legionella treatment, prevention and control techniques.
