Description: The Bentley Institute delivers this 5-day course in a virtual classroom online. The course begins with the Bentley WaterCAD Fundamentals course [3 days] and continues with 2 days of additional WaterGEMS topics. The class begins with the basics of hydraulics theory as it applies to water distribution modeling, then takes students through more advanced topics such as: working with multiple scenarios and alternatives, model calibration pump selection, energy and cost studies, extended-period simulation, fire flow analysis, water quality analysis, and identifying critical links or shortfalls within a water system. Overview topics include hydraulic transient modeling featuring HAMMER and SCADAConnect. The advanced portion of this training includes software tools used for automating system calibration and design and model skeletonization, developing system demands from geospatial data on land use or population, importing elevation data from digital elevation models, pipe renewal planning, introductory material on customizing and extending WaterGEMS using WaterObjects.NET, leveraging interoperability of WaterGEMS to take advantage of the industry’s leading CAD/GIS platforms, water quality modeling and system flushing routines. Students will become familiar with both WaterCAD and WaterGEMS applications and use the software to reinforce concepts with case studies.
Learning Outcomes: • Apply the basic principles of water distribution modeling • Apply WaterCAD/WaterGEMS models to solve common water distribution system problems • Increase productivity by applying automated approaches to common modeling tasks
Prerequisites: Working knowledge of AutoCAD 12 Fundamentals Access to Bentley WaterCAD and WaterGEMS software. VOIP headset recommended.
